By Aniekan Umanah AKSG PRESS RELEASE (Posted: February 1, 2011) The Government of Akwa Ibom State has received with shock, news of the gruesome murder of the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, HRM Edidem Robert James Obot by unknown assailants on Sunday January 30, 2011. This sad episode has thrown the entire state into mourning, considering the immense contributions and fatherly disposition of the septuagenarian monarch towards the development of our state. The State government very strongly condemns this dastardly act and has accordingly directed the Police and other security agencies to immediately investigate and comb the state and bring to book, the perpetrators of this criminal and inhuman act. It is highly unfortunate that an act highly alien to our culture and unprecedented in the history of the State, has been imported and imbibed by few miscreants, leading to the barbaric elimination of a ranking member of the traditional institution in the State. The Government again re-affirms its commitment to the protection of live and property of her citizens and cannot therefore fold her hands and watch monstrous elements in human form, taking laws into their hands and visiting discomfort and untold hardship on law abiding and innocent citizens of the state. It is for this reason that the entire security apparatus of government has been charged to ensure that no stone is left unturned in the quick uncovering of this sad and unfortunate ignoble act. The Government hereby sympathizes with the family of the deceased, the traditional institution and indeed the entire people of Nsit Ubium on this irreparable loss. Also, His Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom State has directed that security be beefed up for all paramount rulers and notable traditional rulers. All citizens and residents of the State are hereby advised to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses as government is doing everything possible to guarantee their safety and protection.
