The Akwa Ibom State government has re-assured that it will leave no stone unturned to ensure completion of all its programmes projects as promised to the people of the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Social Re-Orientation Mr. Aniekan Umanah disclosed this while leading members of management team of the Tribune newspapers on a visit to projects sites in the state.
Mr. Umanah noted that Governor Akpabio’s concerted move to reposition the State and place as a leading economy in the Gulf of Guinea, has led to the construction of a world class airport, the Ibom Tropicana Center, the Ibom Industrial City Project, the Ibom Power Project, the several kilometers of roads network across the state, and the 20th anniversary Specialist Hospital and Referral Center.
He said these developments have placed the Akwa Ibom on the global tourism map as a destination of sort, boosted by the upsurge of several national and international events, hosted in the state.
The Commissioner noted that to ensure the readiness of the people to catch up with these emerging opportunities, Governor Akpabio is implementing a free and compulsory education scheme from Primary to Senior Secondary School, adding that apart from paying subventions to schools for each pupil and student, the Governor also pays WAEC and NECO senior secondary examination fees for the all the students in the state.
He maintained that to the admiration of his people, Governor Akpabio has refused to be distracted by the frivolous petitions written by few disgruntled politicians on newspaper pages and spurious blackmail sold on the internet, even as he has vowed to embark on more developmental projects across the thirty one local government areas of the State.
Speaking, the Managing Director of the Tribune Newspapers, Rev Sam Adesuwa commended Governor Akpabio for impacting on the lives of his people. He said the team was in the State to see things for themselves, following several media reports on the progress made by the present administration.
Rev. Adesuwa said that his team was surprised at the spate of achievements recorded by the Akpabio- led administration in the state, and expressed delight at being associated with the success story.
Other editorial members of the Tribune who spoke during the visit, also expressed satisfaction at the quality of jobs executed by the state.
Among projects visited were the Nung Udoe Itak Use Ikot Amama Road, the Afaha Obong Etim Ekpo Iwukem Road with spur in Ika, the Abak – Ikot Ekpene road, as well as urban roads within Ikot Ekpene local government area.
The team which had arrived Uyo via the Ibom International Airport, was also led on inspection to the Governor’s lodge, the Ekom Iman - Ekim Itam road, the the flyover projects at Itam, the 20th anniversary Hospital at Ekit Itam, the Ibom Tropicana center in Uyo, the ultra modern library along Babangida Avenue, and the 3.6 kilometer flood and erosion control project, among other projects.
