AKSG Press Release: Anambra Residents Drum Support for Governor Akpabio in 2011 (Posted: November 7, 2010)

Anambra State indigenes resident in Akwa Ibom State have reiterated their unequivocal support to the second term re-electionbid of Governor Godswill Akpabio in 2011.

They made their position known last weekend at a colourful ceremony held at the Government Primary School, Ikot Ntuen Oku, Uyo.

The well attended occasion was the 2010 Anambra Cultural Day Celebration, organized by the Anambra Development Association, Akwa Ibom State, and it witnessed the display of various cultural troupes and masquerades.

Speaking through their General Secretary, Ada Nze Martin Umeanaka, the Anambra indigenes said though they have resided in the State for over 27 years, they have never witnessed such spate of achievements as recorded by Chief Godswill Akpabio, in only three years as Governor.

They acknowledged the various strides made by Governor Godswill Akpabio, which accordingly, has made their trades and stay in Akwa Ibom to be a lot more easier and exciting, adding that they had no doubt in their mind in re-affirming their support to the Governor for a second term in office.

The Anambra indigenes said that it was out of their love and interest in the progress in Akwa Ibom that they have decided to erect a Civic Hall to be known as Anambra House in Uyo, the State capital, and called for support to make the project a huge success.

In his message at the occasion, Governor Akpabio commended the Anambra people and the entire Igbo residents in the state for their unique spirit of industry and enterprise which he noted has contributed significantly to the growth of the State’s economy.

Represented by his Commissioner for Information and Social Re-Orientation, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, the Governor recounted his numerous projects which have afforded residents a better environment for business to thrive.

Such projects like the international airport, the massive roads network, independent power project and the quality health care delivery, the Governor said, has offered people in the State the best environment for businesses to thrive, and called on all to take advantage of these opportunities to invest in the State.

He said that the ties between Anambra state and Akwa Ibom is cemented by the fact their Governor Peter Obi is an in-law in Akwa Ibom while Governor Akpabio is also an in-law in Igboland, maintaining that since the free and compulsory education of the Akpabio-led government is not restricted to indigenes of the state, Anambarians should embrace the policy by sending their children to School.

The Information boss thanked the Anambra indigenes for their support and endorsement of the re-election bid of Governor Akpabio and pledged the support of the State Governor to the construction of their Civic Hall.

While restating Government’s commitment to the provision of a condusive environment to all, the Governor’s representative announced a donation of one million naira in support of the Anambra civic center project to be cited at Idoro, Uyo.

Also speaking, the Clan head of Oku, Uyo, Etebom Efiong Eberefiak noted the peaceful disposition of Anambra people in the state, and commended them for their support for the re-election of Governor Akpabio into office in 2011.
